Julia Darlow

Regent Julia Darlow, a Democrat from Ann Arbor, was elected to the University's Board of Regents in 2006.

Darlow graduated with a law degree from Wayne State University in 1971 after earning a bachelor's degree from Vassar College in 1963.

Darlow practiced law for 33 years with Dickinson Wright PLLC of Detroit and for two years with Varnum, Riddering, Schmidt & Howlett LLP of Novi. Darlow’s areas of practice included non-profit law, corporate governance and international and domestic business transactions.

Darlow currently serves as a trustee for the Detroit Bar Foundation and is a member of the Michigan Opera Theatre Board of Directors. Darlow has also served as the board chair of Hutzel Women’s Hospital and was the first woman elected to serve as president of the State Bar of Michigan. She has also served on the Michigan Bilateral Trade Team for Germany, the International Women’s Forum Global Affairs Committee and the State Officers’ Compensation Commission.

Although newly elected University Regent Julia Darlow (D-Ann Arbor) didn't get a chance to voice her opinions at her first meeting on board, that doesn't mean she's shy about expressing them.
Darlow said her priorities during her eight-year term are affordability and diversity in an interview last month.
