To say that the No. 10 Michigan women's tennis team crushed its Big Ten opponents this weekend would be an understatement. The team didn't even let its two competitors, Illinois and Iowa, walk away with a single win throughout either match.

Michigan went 7-0 in both matches, sweeping both singles and doubles matches across the board.
The Wolverines contested Illinois with one clear goal — to come out on top as a force to be reckoned with in Big Ten. The team was determined to beat the Fighting Illini, later finishing against Iowa with its ninth-consecutive win.
"Today was just one of those days where everything was working.” Michigan coach Ronni Bernstein said after the Illinois match. “The girls were focused from the beginning. They all got out to quick starts across the board.”
Senior Denise Muresan set the stage in both Big Ten duals on Friday and Saturday, sweeping her singles matches — marking her 105th and 106th career wins.
Muresan also swept her doubles matches against Iowa and Illinois along with freshman Brooke Bolender — the duo is ranked ninth in doubles in the country.
Throughout the season, they have shown a very symbiotic doubles game and have worked off of each other’s strengths that they have.
“At No. 1, Bolender and Muresan are really taking care of business." Bernstein said. "The key for them is to focus on holding serve, so even if they get one break, they can just serve and stay ahead.”
Bolender won her singles matches as well, along with seniors Rika Tatsano and Whitney Taney, freshman Sam Critser and junior Michelle Sulahian. At Iowa, Bolender went 6-0 in her first set, only allowing her opponent to win two games in the second set with a 6-2 record. Critser, similarly, finished 6-0 in the second set of her singles match.
Tatsano and Taney maintained their perfect 9-0 conference record in their doubles matches.
Bernstein emphasizes consistency and insists that Tatsano and Taney have been invaluable assets to the team. The duo is a rock of stability that is a valuable commodity to the team.
“Rika (Tatsuno) and Whitney (Taney), they are just always playing well.” Bernstein said.
Also playing well were sophomore Mimi Nguyen and Sulahian, who obliterated their opponents in the No. 3 doubles match against Iowa, with an 8-0 finishing set.
Overall, the team succeeded in doing what they set their sights on doing — coming out on top as the better team.
“We talk about getting up and putting your foot down and that is what we did.” Bernstein said. “We never let them in the match.”
Bernstein added: "We are really where we need to be right now, and we are continually improving."
