The eighth-ranked Wolverines wrestled first at Northwestern and returned home to defend their mat against No. 7 Illinois. McFarland chugged up the slope of the coaster and reached the victory peak at Northwestern. Inevitably, things went down hill from there as the Fighting Illini pushed Michigan over the edge.

The year 2011 came to an end, coincidentally enough, with 11 place winners for the Michigan wrestling team. The Wolverines eclipsed all other teams at the annual Mat Town Invitational, hosted by Lock Haven University, and came away with a few resolutions as they approach the new year.
