After losing both matchups against the Hawkeyes (1-1 Big Ten, 12-4 overall) last season and 44 of 58 games in the series, the Wolverines relied early on senior Kate Thompson and her nation leading 3.96 3-pointers per game and senior Rachel Sheffer to win, 68-64.

After a sluggish start to the game, the Wolverines used a 15-2 run between the first and second halves to edge out Indiana, 65-48. Michigan (12-2, 1-0 Big Ten) rode its unbeaten December record into the new year to capture coach Kim Barnes Arico’s first win in the Big Ten.

Preseason numbers indicated that winning the Big Ten Conference would not be an easy task. It is safe to say that those numbers were correct.
Thursday marks the beginning of the Big Ten women’s basketball season, and the talent is the strongest it has been in years. Currently, there are three ranked Big Ten teams, with four additional schools receiving Top-25 votes.

For the first time since the 1998-1999 season, the Michigan women’s basketball team escaped the month of December unbeaten. On Saturday afternoon, the Wolverines defeated Niagara (5-6) 82-44 to end the 2012-year on a six game winning streak.

Unlike against prior opponents this season, Michigan had a clear advantage from the start in rebounding. The Wolverines boast nine players at six feet or taller compared to the Broncos, who have just two, and Michigan dismantled the Broncos, 60-41.

YPSILANTI — Coming off last Wednesday’s journey to Peoria, Ill., the Michigan women’s basketball team found itself on the road again to face Eastern Michigan. Yet the Wolverines didn’t have to travel far Tuesday night, taking a short drive down Washtenaw Avenue to defeat the Eagles, 55-43.
