To be the best, you have to beat the best. Monday night at the Crisler Center, the No. 25 Michigan women’s basketball team will attempt to do just that. The Wolverines (4-0 Big Ten, 15-2 overall) will face their toughest challenge of the season against No. 9 Penn State (4-0, 14-2) in a battle for Big Ten supremacy.

Looking to extend a series of winning streaks, the No. 25 Michigan women’s basketball team took on Northwestern (0-4 Big Ten, 8-9 overall) on Thursday night in its first game as a ranked team since 2002.

Life is good for the Michigan women’s basketball team. The 25th-ranked Wolverines are listed in the Associated Press women’s basketball poll for the first time since 2002 and they have won their first three games in conference play for the first time in program history. They face Northwestern (0-3 Big Ten, 8-8 overall) on Thursday at Welsh-Ryan Arena looking to extend their program-best 10-game win streak.

For the first time since Dec. 23, 2002, the Michigan women’s basketball team is ranked by the Associated Press women’s basketball poll. The Wolverines (3-0 Big Ten, 14-2 overall) enter the poll at No. 25 after a 54-43 victory over Wisconsin on Sunday.

It wasn’t pretty for the Michigan women’s basketball team Sunday, but, as they have each of the previous eight games, the Wolverines found a way to win Sunday. Michigan beat Wisconsin 54-43 at the Crisler Center to extend its winning streak to nine and continue to improve upon the best start in program history.

With its 68-64 victory over Iowa on Sunday, the Michigan women’s basketball team (2-0 Big Ten, 13-2 overall) achieved a new record, and is off to its best start in program history. And with the victory, the Wolverines have won eight straight games — something they have not done since the 2001-02 season.
