Wolverines break record while preparing for Big Ten Championship

As seniors Dan Lowry and Bobby Aprill neared the finish of the 5,000-meter run at the Husky Invitational, their teammates yelled to them a simple question: “Which one of you wants it?” Both of the seniors came across the line ahead of the school record of 13:45.06, with Lowry finishing just two seconds in front of Aprill with a time of 13:42.48.

Michigan’s throwers lead men’s track team to win over Michigan State

Steve Adams has held the Michigan indoor shot-put record since 1972, but at this year’s banquet, Michigan coach Fred LaPlante jokingly warned him that this would be the year the record would be broken. He was referring to redshirt sophomore Cody Riffle, who had his sights set on the mark that has stood for 41 years.

Tobel, Smith set bar high in Wolverines’ second meet of year

A slow clap began with the P.A. announcer, but slowly circulated around the entire U-M Indoor Track Building. As the clapping sped up, junior pole-vaulter Kiley Tobel took a deep breath. What stood before her was something far bigger than herself. It was beyond first place — she had already secured that. Tobel was looking to extend her school record.
