The meet didn't come down to a second or even half a second.
Though the 29-point differential between the No. 10 Michigan women's swimming and diving team and No. 5 Georgia may suggest otherwise, the meet was decided by the nine-hundredths of a second, according to Michigan coach Jim Richardson. Those nine-hundredths of a second determined the winner of the short-length events.
"We're swimming head-to-head and winning as many races as them," Richardson said. ".Those bang-bang races were pretty much the meet."

EAST LANSING -- The 200-yard medley relay, the first event in yesterday's women's swimming and diving meet between Michigan and Michigan State, was a microcosm of the entire contest. The two top swimmers were neck-and-neck, racing tightly for first place.
Unfortunately for the Spartans, their best swimmer came in a distant third.
No. 9 Michigan dominated a Spartan team (0-2 Big Ten, 1-2 overall) that finished dead last in the Big Ten last year. The Wolverines controlled the meet, winning 11 out of 12 events and breaking multiple pool records on their way to a 153-85 victory.

Streaks are made to be broken. It's just a matter of when.
Unfortunately for the Michigan women's swimming and diving team, Saturday wasn't the day.
Florida brought a 34-0 opening-day record into Canham Natatorium and extended it despite an impressive showing by the Wolverines. Michigan fell five points short in a 124-119 loss to the Gators.
The Wolverines' "A" squad's strong finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay gave Michigan hope even though it trailed by a wide margin heading into the final event. Led by senior Kaitlyn Brady, the team won the race with a time of 3:23.74.

The Michigan men's swimming and diving team dropped its season-opening meet for the first time in 38 years, losing 135-106 to Florida at Canham Natatorium on Saturday.
If there's one thing this year's team has, it's youth. The roster consists of mostly underclassmen. It was those younger players who led the way for the Wolverines in the loss, taking all three of Michigan's wins.
Freshman Scott Spann debuted on the second-place 400-yard medley relay team and picked up his first victory in the 200-yard butterfly (2:02.39).

Sophomores Hannah Smith and Payton Johnson, junior Justine Mueller and senior Kaitlyn Brady put the Blue squad on the board with a win in the 200-yard Medley Relay in Saturday's women's swimming and diving intrasquad scrimmage held at Canham Natatorium. Senior Lindsey Smith, Hannah's older sister, took the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle to answer for the Maize team. Hannah won the 50-yard freestyle and Mueller claimed victory in both the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard breaststroke in response. But it was not enough.
