When the Michigan women’s soccer team faced then-No. 14 Wisconsin on Sep. 23, it rode a dominating defensive effort to pull off the upset. Wednesday night, that same formula worked again as the Wolverines defeated the Badgers, 2-0, in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals in Bloomington.

In one of its last home showings and with the goal of gaining a spot in the NCAA Tournament in mind, the Michigan men’s soccer team braved the wind and rain to battle the University of Detroit Mercy.

As the end of the season looms, the Michigan men’s soccer team is furiously fighting to put itself in position to earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Wolverines, currently ranked 26th in the RPI rankings, have done a lot of things right in hopes to achieve that aspiration.

The Michigan women’s soccer team’s seniors hoped to go out with a bang, but instead left the field with heartbreak. Seniors Haley Kopmeyer, Clare Stachel and Emily Jaffe hoped the leave the U-M Soccer Complex victorious once again, but on this senior night, the 3-2 loss to Illinois proved it was not meant to be.

Though the Michigan men soccer team may not be ranked at the top the country, its schedule is. Having played six ranked teams this season, the Wolverines’ (6-8-1 overall, 2-2-1 Big Ten) record may not accurately reflect how well they’ve played.

Entering its final regular-season game against Illinois, the No. 24 Michigan women’s soccer team knew it needed a victory to earn the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament. But despite holding a two-goal lead with under 30 minutes to play, the Wolverines (7-2-2 Big Ten, 13-4-2 overall) surrendered three consecutive tallies and lost, 3-2, in overtime.
