The Michigan rowing team competed against Michigan State on Sunday and finished first and second in fours. The Wolverines placed second in quads and third and sixth in both doubles and pairs. Michigan's novice squad also saw its first competitive action this season, racing in two shorter flights. Next weekend, the Chicago Head Race, will be the Wolverines' last competition of the fall.

The news was so significant Michigan assistant coach Veronika Platzer nearly dropped her cell phone.
Thanks to the Internet, Michigan's fans knew how the Wolverines placed even before the team did. But when they did find out over the phone, it was hard for any Wolverine to contain their excitement.
The Michigan women's rowing team's varsity-eight boat placed third at the prestigious Head of the Charles regatta in Boston. The Wolverines' time of 16:21.651 was the highest finish by any collegiate team at the event, and marked the best finish ever in Michigan history.

The trees may have been speckled with rich reds, oranges and yellows and the boats aligned in their assigned lanes, but it sure didn't feel like fall.
The Michigan Women's rowing team joined Ohio State and Michigan State at Belleville Lake Sunday for an early fall scrimmage while battling unseasonably high heat and early team injuries.
Official results were not kept, but the Wolverines consistently traded first- and second-place finishes with the Spartans and Buckeyes.

Barring an unforeseen phenomenon, the sixth-ranked Michigan rowing team will not qualify for the NCAA Championships in two weeks.
Michigan finished seventh with 306 points in a disappointing end to the season at the Central/South Region Championships in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
In order to get a bid to nationals, it's imperative that the team qualifies two of its three boats in the 'A' final on day one. Michigan's top three boats - first eight, second eight, and first four - failed to reach that mark and raced in the 'B' final.

The Michigan rowing team may not have won the war at the Big Ten Championship, but it definitely won the biggest battle last weekend in Madison.
The Wolverines were expected to take third in the first varsity eights, which was the most important competition of the tournament. The winner of the first varsity eights race received 63 points, compared to just seven points rewarded to the last race of the weekend, the second novice eights.

In what was supposed to be a rebuilding year, the Michigan rowing team is coming together at just the right time. Though the Wolverines lost to Ohio State by fewer than two seconds in the first varsity eight this weekend, Michigan blew past No. 12 Tennessee for its first finish above a ranked team of the season.
The race, held on the chilly Scioto River in Columbus, was a perfect way to enter the waning weeks of the season.
With just one weekend of competition before entering the Big Ten Championships, Michigan is thankful for the added momentum.
