"Sick lax."
Like a baby’s first words, it was repeated over and over.
"Sick lax."
For six Japanese lacrosse players, the phrase defined their three-week spring vacation in Ann Arbor. The players lived with senior midfielder Nick Standiford and other members of the Michigan lacrosse team.

For most of Saturday night's first quarter against No. 8 Colorado State, it appeared as if the Michigan men’s lacrosse team's perfect season might be in danger.
With 5:50 remaining in the frame, the Wolverines’ high-powered offense still hadn’t found the cage against the Rams' zone and the game was tied 0-0.
It was just the calm before the storm.

On one sideline stood a group of Brigham Young lacrosse reserves in clean uniforms, some without helmets or gloves. In the biggest game of their season to date, the players tossed balls against the wall of Oosterbaan Fieldhouse and seemed to wish away the remaining time on the game clock.

Sophomore lacrosse goalies Andrew Fowler and Mark Stone looked determined as Michigan goalie coach Brad Gigliotti fired shots and barked instructions at them during pregame warm-ups yesterday morning.
That was the most pressure either goalie would encounter all day.

The women’s club lacrosse team jogged onto the field in the Oosterbaan Fieldhouse, giving each other high-fives with their sticks and yelling cheers of encouragement.
Twenty yards downfield, the Wisconsin players quietly walked to their positions.
No cheers. No exuding sense of confidence.

The team with the highest winning percentage in Michigan history isn’t the one you’d expect.
It isn’t the football team, despite its outstanding tradition. It isn’t the hockey team, despite its dominance in the CCHA. That distinction belongs to the men’s club-varsity lacrosse team which has won more than 82 percent of its games.
The lacrosse team’s 60-year-old tradition differentiates it from your average club program, though few on campus are aware of its historic success.

It was a sideline party like none other.
The Michigan men's lacrosse team stood toward the back end of Elbel Field, laughing and joking, basking in the glow of what they'd just accomplished.
But is it appropriate to celebrate 8-1 and 11-5 defeats in your own event - The Wolverine Showcase? It is when the losses come against defending National Champion Johns Hopkins and Division-I power Army, respectively.
"This was the best game I've ever played in," senior Tom Lehman said of the loss to
Johns Hopkins. "8-1 sounds good to me."
