Leslie Smith carried the ball up the left side towards the goal. Running out of room, Smith, a redshirt sophomore back, passed the ball across the net right in front of the goalie. Freshman forward Aisling Naughton was there to receive it and quickly chipped it in the net for the score.

Michigan field hockey prevails on big stage vs. Michigan State

Televised by the Big Ten Network, the game was notable for its opponent, No. 19 Michigan State, as well as the fact that both teams were pink-clad since the game was dedicated to breast cancer awareness. All the extra attention, though, seemed to adversely affect the Wolverines in the opening strains of the afternoon tilt.
