Wolverines fall in final Big Ten series against Cornhuskers

Saturday marked the end of the Michigan baseball season. Though the farewell was bitter in a rubber-match loss to Nebraska, there was a semi-sweet aftertaste, like a reminder that the weekend’s series wasn’t as disappointing as it may seem.

Baseball hosts last series of season

Six numbers representing six jerseys were being painted on the grass in front of the dugout in Ray Fisher Stadium yesterday.
The Michigan baseball team (7-14 Big Ten, 21-32 overall) heads into its season finale against Nebraska (12-9, 32-20) in an early weekend series. For the program's six seniors, it’s the end of the road. They will step onto the field for the very last time.

KALAMAZOO — Michigan baseball coach Rich Maloney returned to his alma mater, Western Michigan, where he was named a third team All-American at shortstop and inducted into the university’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004.

The Wolverines knew they were out of the hunt for a Big Ten title after being swept by Indiana in late April. But it seems like they’re playing better with the monkey off their backs.

Michael O’Neill looks fresh.
The time off threw a wrench to the Michigan baseball team’s offense, but it may have done him some good.
The sophomore right fielder’s strong comeback seems well-timed and well-deserved. Team USA took notice and called O’Neill before Wednesday’s game with the opportunity of a lifetime.

Baseball posts lopsided midweek split to Coastal Carolina

Fortunately for the Michigan baseball team, the inclement weather had no ill effects on the offensive performance that followed. Though the Wolverines dropped three-straight contests to Coastal Carolina earlier in this season’s nonconference play, they avoided a two-game sweep, splitting the series. Michigan (6-12 Big Ten, 20-29 overall) lost on Tuesday, 6-1, but bounced back with a 5-2 victory Wednesday.

Baseball hosts Chanticleers in nonconference rematch

The Michigan baseball team heads down its final stretch of the season and faces an uphill climb. The Wolverines continue to recover from injury as they host Coastal Carolina in back-to-back midweek games today and tomorrow.
