Michigan’s baseball team seemed to take a trip to the past Wednesday. The Wolverines displayed old-school techniques: using steals, bunts and situational hitting to score runs. But so did Western Michigan. Despite being accustomed to this style of play, Michigan (10-12) fell to the Broncos, 7-3, in the Wolverines’ home opener at Ray Fisher Stadium.

On Wednesday, the Wolverines (10-11 overall) will finally play hosts, this time to Western Michigan (7-16) at Ray Fisher Stadium in their first home game.

O’Neill might have seen better days, but recently, the Michigan baseball team hasn’t. They’re currently 10-11 in non-conference play and lost this weekend’s series to Western Illinois (6-14), a team that boasts only one significant win all season.

With myriad obstacles in its way, the Michigan baseball team will have its character tested this weekend. The Wolverines (9-10) were originally scheduled to host Western Illinois (4-13) in their first home series of the season, but they’ll now play at Adrian College due to the unplayable field condition at Ray Fischer Stadium.

In its last tournament before its home opener, the Michigan baseball team (8-7) will head to Myrtle Beach, S.C., to compete in the Chanticleer Classic beginning Friday. Michigan will take on Coastal Carolina (7-10) on Friday and Saturday, followed by a game on Sunday against Akron (1-12).
