An LSA junior from Bloomfield Township, Mich., died Monday after being struck by a truck on Interstate 94 on Monday, the Oakland Press reported.
At about 10:30 p.m. Monday, the 20-year-old student, George Orley, parked his 2012 Acura along the right shoulder of I-94 between Rawsonville and Belleville roads and exited the vehicle, the Press reported. For reasons currently unknown, he tried to walk across the eastbound side of the freeway. Orley was hit by a semi tractor-trailer at around 10:30 p.m. after the driver was unable to avoid striking the man in the center lane, according to state police.
Orley’s father, Randy Orley, told the Press that Orley was active in community service, serving as a co-founder for 313 Certified LLC, a Detroit cellphone charity application.
State authorities are still investigating the incident, and autopsy results are still pending.
Orley is one of at least five students who died this summer. LSA junior Sharita Williams died earlier this month after being struck by a vehicle on Plymouth Road near North Campus.
Orley's funeral will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m., at Congregation Shaarey Zedek synagogue at 27375 Bell Road, Southfield MI 48034.
