The Michigan Daily is the student-run newspaper of the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. Current University students are invited to apply to join the paper?s staff. The newspaper offers the opportunity to cover campus as well as Ann Arbor, the state, the nation and the world. Daily staff members routinely have access to the University administration, Michigan sports teams, local cultural events and more. They often travel around the country to cover important stories and events, and they gain the experience of producing an award-winning daily newspaper.
Alumni include playwright Arthur Miller, two-time presidential candidate Thomas Dewey, activist Tom Hayden and investment banker Bruce Wasserstein. Its former editors, reporters, photographers, business staff members and other alumni have gone on to work at publications like The New York Times, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Wall Street Journal, Time magazine, The Associated Press and countless other media outlets.
There are currently opportunities in news, opinion, The Statement, sports, arts, design, photography, the copydesk, video, online as well as the business staff. Each section requires potential members to take several steps before joining the staff, and some positions are paid.
