Volunteers with Tourette's
Syndrome Needed
Thirty Tourette's syndrome and 30 control subjects will participate in 1 or more PET (positron emission tomography) scans and an MRI scan. All subjects will undergo a history and neurological examination. Travel to Ann Arbor, MI is necessary for participation. Volunteer fees are paid and some support of travel costs is avail. Eligible subjects must be:
-Adults (18 years or older) with well documented Tourette syndrome diagnosis.
-No neurologic condition other than Tourette syndrome. (e.g. individuals with a history of stroke, developmental disability, dystonia, Parkinson disease, or marked head trauma are not eligible.)
-No history of psychosis, schizophrenia or recent severe depression.
-Free of neurologic or psychoactive medications for 6 months. This includes dopamine antagonists such as haloperidol (Haldol), pimozide (Orap), risperidone (Risperdal) and psychostimulants (Ritalin, Adderal and Concerta). Use of adrenergic agonists like clonidine (Catapress) or guanfacine (Tenex) and antidepressants are acceptable.
