Students protest at Board of Regents meeting

A sea of maize flooded the Rogel Ballroom in the Michigan Union yesterday when more than 200 students stood in support of tuition equality at the University’s Board of Regents meeting.
Tuition equality would ensure that undocumented students who have resided in Michigan would pay in-state tuition rates.
Regents approve Wall Street parking structure

At this month’s meeting of the University’s Board of Regents the Regents approved the construction of the Wall Street East parking structure. The structure — which will be located in place of a parking lot near the medical campus and Kellogg Eye Center — is estimated to cost $34 million.
Scarnecchia announces resignation

In an e-mail sent to members of the University community on Friday, University President Mary Sue Coleman announced that Suellyn Scarnecchia, the University’s vice president and general counsel since 2008, will step down to take a faculty position in the Law School.
Coleman wrote in the e-mail that Scarnecchia has played an integral role as a member of the University’s executive board.
Coleman critical of Snyder’s budget

University President Mary Sue Coleman chided state lawmakers yesterday as she criticized Republican Gov. Rick Snyder’s proposed 2013 budget that would use a new formula to allocate state funding to universities.
New $50 million School of Nursing building proposal to go before board

At last month’s meeting, the University’s Board of Regents decided to award contracts to commence the renovation of East Quad Residence Hall and improvements to the residential quarters of the Lawyer’s Club. This week, the regents will vote on adding another construction project — a new building for the School of Nursing — to the list.

When LSA freshman Daniel Morales was first admitted to the University, he deferred the start of his freshman year because his family couldn’t afford the out-of-state tuition rate without financial aid.
At the time, Morales was an undocumented resident.

Pescovitz: review of UMHS now over

Though Joint Commission spokesman Bret Coons said last night that there were no “updates from the Joint Commission at this time,” Pescovitz informed University of Michigan Health Services employees via e-mail that the Joint Commission decided on Monday to drop the case after the University released findings from its internal report to the organization on Friday.
