Michigan might have been crushed by rival Michigan State in men’s basketball, but the No. 13 women’s tennis team (1-0 Big Ten, 7-3 overall) wasn’t due for a similar fate. In its first Big Ten match, the Wolverines took on the Spartans (0-1, 8-3) on Wednesday in Ann Arbor and proved to be a terror, crushing their rivals, 7-0.

Two years ago, the then-No. 12 Michigan men’s tennis team was taken by surprise, upset by an unranked Tulsa squad. Wednesday, the 23rd-ranked Wolverines (4-3) get the rematch they’ve been waiting for. The 17th-ranked Golden Hurricanes mark the sixth ranked opponent the Wolverines have faced in their last eight matches.

This past weekend, the No. 16 Michigan women’s tennis team made its fourth appearance at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships held in Charlottesville, Va. The Wolverines, three-time reigning Big Ten champions, knew that hard work and consistent play would be needed in order to succeed.
