The final chapter to Evan King’s storied Michigan career came to a close. Saturday afternoon, the senior faltered in a three-set match, losing 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 to Japie De Klerk of Tulsa.

Three women’s tennis players are set to play in NCAA Individuals

Both sophomore Emina Bektas and freshman Ronit Yurovsky were selected to play in the NCAA Singles Individuals Tournament. Their participation marks the first time in program history that two Wolverines will play in the singles draw.

Women’s tennis upended by UCLA in Sweet 16

The Wolverines started the highly anticipated match at 11:00 pm pacific time and did not finish until the wee hours of the morning. After giving up a tightly contested doubles point, UCLA (19-5) cruised behind its strong singles play.

Playing the likes of Big Ten foes No.11 Northwestern and No. 16 Nebraska is no easy task each year. But these grueling matches are the ones that prepare teams for the big stage. So the 10th-ranked Wolverines are ready for the Bruins this weekend, no matter how high their ranking.

Through two weekend victories, women’s tennis clinches a spot in the Sweet 16

In their first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament, the 10th-ranked Wolverines blanked both IPFW and Notre Dame, 4-0, winning both doubles points en route to the victories. Saturday’s win over Notre Dame (18-9) clinched Michigan’s (10-1 Big Ten, 23-5 overall) fourth-straight Sweet 16 bid.

Women’s tennis to play IPFW in the first round of the NCAA tournament

The Wolverines earned the No. 10 seed, and on May 10th, they’ll play IPFW (23-7) in the first round. Notre Dame (17-8) and NC State (14-9) are also in the same region. The winners of each match will face each other with a Sweet 16 berth on the line. Michigan has made it to the Sweet 16 three years in a row.

The Michigan women’s tennis team had to be worried when they found out they’d be playing Northwestern. After all, the Wildcats have always proved to be the Kryptonite for the Wolverines.
