Michigan absent from Stanford’s party of threes

On Sunday, Villanova coach Harry Peretta predicted that the Michigan women’s basketball team would need 10 3-pointers to topple Stanford in the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament.
Though by the end of Tuesday’s lopsided defeat, it wasn’t the Wolverines who fulfilled Peretta’s ambitious quota.

The eighth-seeded Wolverines will face off against top-seeded Stanford on Tuesday for the chance to make the program’s first Sweet 16 appearance. And if Michigan’s senior-led squad wasn’t already an underdog, its attempt to upset one of the nation’s best teams will occur on the Cardinal’s home court, Maples Pavilion.

If Michigan avoids a first-round loss, it will likely face one of the premier teams in the country in Stanford. The Cardinal is the top seed in the region, and, barring a loss to Tulsa, will face Michigan in the second round on its home court.
Barnes Arico leads streaky Michigan into the NCAA Tournament

The Wolverines (10-6 Big Ten, 21-10 overall) will likely receive their sixth tournament berth in program history Monday under the leadership of first-year coach Kim Barnes Arico. At St. John’s University, Barnes Arico led the Red Storm to four tournament appearances, including a trip to the Sweet 16 in 2012.
