Back in January, Michigan coach Red Berenson started preaching the importance of playing “playoff hockey” to the Wolverines as a way to try and break them out of their slump. Before this weekend, there’ d been glimpses of this mindset but Michigan still had trouble putting one full game together, let alone two.

Though three goals Saturday was still probably more than Michigan would have liked to give up, it found compensation from the forwards, who led the Wolverines to a 6-3 win over Ohio State and secured the team’s first road sweep of the season.

The bad news is that the Wolverines have to travel to Columbus, a daunting task considering that they’ve yet to put together a good road series. The good news? At least the hostile environment will be a learning opportunity, effectively Michigan’s last chance to get some experience on the road under its belt before traveling for the CCHA Tournament.
After injury, Bennett gains coach's perspective

Bennett sustained an upper-body injury in Michigan’s game against Bowling Green. Since then, he could do nothing but watch from the stands as the Wolverines stumbled their way through the rest of January. It was during this month-long absence that he gained a new perspective on some of the team’s problems.

It’s such an obvious concept that it almost bears no explanation, but as with all things, it’s a little easier said than done. The Michigan hockey team has seen first hand this season how its neutral-zone play can break a game, but in last weekend’s series over Michigan State, the Wolverines finally found a rhythm in no man’s land.

Skating towards the goal on a breakaway, DeBlois closed his eyes, then sniped the puck over Michigan State goaltender Jake Hildebrand’s left shoulder — a shot so powerful that the water bottle attached to the goal was ejected out of its fastenings and fell to the ice.

Wolverines edge out Spartans in first home win since December

There was only one storyline on everyone’s minds going into the Michigan hockey team’s contest with Michigan State on Friday night — what would a game between the CCHA’s two worst teams look like?
It looked like a game that finally fell in the Wolverines’ favor. After getting off to a shaky start, Michigan pulled out a 3-2 win over the Spartans.
