With physical play, Michigan's pass rush makes strides

The orange was supposed to have said it all.
After backup quarterback Russell Bellomy, a redshirt sophomore, tore his anterior cruciate ligament in practice on March 29, the Michigan coaching staff wasn’t going to risk any more injuries before the 2013 season actually started.

The conclusion of the basketball season means the eyes of the Michigan athletic community are on sophomore point guard Trey Burke and if he’ll decide to leave Michigan and enter the NBA Draft. Taylor Lewan knows that feeling all too well — it’s been three months since he announced his decision to stay spurn the NFL Draft to stay with the Michigan.

Sophomore Jarrod Wilson has been pegged with the difficult task of replacing Jordan Kovacs at safety alongside fifth-year senior Thomas Gordon, and throughout the spring he has continued to solidify his spot as the presumed starter.

But two of the Wolverines’ top defensemen might throw a wrench in those plans. Freshman Jacob Trouba and junior Jon Merrill will decide in the upcoming weeks whether or not to leave Michigan and play in the NHL.

Michigan blew past Miami (Ohio) Saturday evening in a 6-2 decision powered by a torrent of goals in the second period. The win sets up a match against Notre Dame on Sunday afternoon for the CCHA Championship

Mike Chaisson has been told so many times about the similarities between him and his father, Steve, but he never gets tired of hearing it. And he never gets tired of talking about he man who shaped his childhood and helped bring him to Michigan — all because Steve enjoyed bringing his son to his ‘office.’

On Friday night, while some students tried to make the most of the end of spring break by drinking excessively, senior Kevin Lynch had a blackout of his own during the Michigan hockey team’s game against Northern Michigan in the first round of the CCHA playoffs.
