BY ANNA SADOVSKAYA

Whether you’re a ballroom-dance enthusiasts or a newcomer to the world of the foxtrot and rumba, the 12th Annual Michigan Ballroom Dance Competition is a great way to cha-cha slide into the ballroom dance scene at the ‘U’.

The student-run competition is hosted by the The Michigan Ballroom Dance Team, the seven-year running Ohio Star Ball National Champions. Competitors from 23 schools will attend the event, registered to compete in various levels of mastery. Ranging from novices to skilled dancers, each level will compete with an array of steps and dances to choose from.

At the end of the day the event will feature a showcase by dancers Victor Fung and Anastasia Muravyeva. The duo, currently ranked third in the world in Standard Ballroom dance, will also conduct a workshop the following day for those who can’t wait to put their dancing shoes on.

The events will begin as early as 8 a.m. tomorrow at Saline Middle School, and will continue through the day.

With free goodies and food from local vendors, this event may inspire your inner Johnny Castle and ‘Baby’ Houseman.
