Hoekstra takes down Chinese-themed site attacking Stabenow

Former U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra has taken down his website www.DebbieSpentitnow.com after the advertisement associated with it was met with controversy and criticism from local and national media for racial insensitivity, the Detroit News reported yesterday. The advertisement, which featured an Asian woman speaking in broken English, first ran on Sunday during the Super Bowl and was scheduled to run in Michigan over the next two weeks. Hoekstra’s campaign has already replaced it with a new advertisement that still uses the phrase “Debbie Spend-it-Now,” but is free of Chinese references, according to the Detroit News.
