Several local agencies responded to a Haz-Mat incident this evening at the Circle K gas station at Packard Street and E. Stadium Boulevard this evening.

Acting AAFD Battalion Chief Amy Brow said the Ann Arbor Police Department and Circle K employees called AAFD to the gas station alleging they had received money contaminated with an unknown substance.

The Washtenaw County Haz-Mat team was dispatched to the scene and determined that the contaminants may be associated with chemicals used to make meth amphetamine, Brow said.

Brow said AAFD arrived on scene at 3:30 p.m. One police car, an AAFD Haz-Mat truck and several Washtenaw County Haz-Mat units were still on scene as of 7:00 p.m.

Brow said AAFD and Washtenaw Haz-Mat officials decided to turn the scene over to the Circle K company, who will hire a private company to de-contaminate the store.

Three employees who were suffering headaches were transported to the hospital for medical assistance, Brow added.
