It's Girl Scout Cookie Time!
BY ERIN GREEN
It's Girl Scout cookie time, basically my favorite time of year. Boxes are so cheap, the cookies remind me of childhood, and of course you're supporting a great cause. My favorites are Samoas, the carmely coconuty chocolatey hexagons, and Thin Mints, dark-chocolate coated minty wafers. Mmmmm. Coincidentally, my two favorites (along with Tagalongs, the peanut butter patties) are also ice creams, which makes me very excited whenever I see them in the supermarket. Just like the cookies, the ice creams are only available during "cookie season" from January through April. Made by Edy's, they're absolutely delicious. I've found them at Meijers here, but you can check www.edys.com to locate specific flavors at a store near you. The Samoa and Thin Mint flavors come in "light" varieties too, which is nice, although the "light" version of Thin Mint is vanilla-based and the regular version is chocolate (much more delicious, obviously). Ice cream sales don't go to the Girl Scouts though, so if you want to help your local troop, go to www.girlscoutcookies.org to buy some cookies to sprinkle on top of your Edy's. Happy cookie season!
