Maybe if I had $5.00 prescriptions, and a $50.00 ANNUAL health insurance deductable, like the Dexter teachers do, I could afford to pay these new taxes. When public employee benefits are in line with the private sector I could agree to new taxes, but we probably would not need to!

“Staff is where most of our costs are,” Roberts told the Daily on Monday.

But is that where most of the spending is occurring??? I think there is a difference between cost and uncontrolled spending.

Do more with less or pretty soon it will be doing everything with nothing...

It is a shame that people actually believe that the education "industry" must be cut. This is a direct route to creating a perpetually under-performing economy. It is callous and wrong to phrase education spending this way. You want Michigan to look like Haiti?

Go ahead, label education as an "industry" and project cost-cutting measures on it.

First of all, let me say. We need to change eligibility for millage elections.

So nice of you to solicit student votes since they won't be paying the increased taxes you ask them
to approve. I propose a change to eligibility to allow only property owners to vote in millage
elections.

I note Ann Arbor voted to pass this proposal. Of course, they are involved in education and see
this as necessary to maintain their life style. Let them increase their taxes if they want to.
They were so worried about not getting "their fair share" anyway--let them keep all their
money and continue to support the wages and benefits of overpaid teachers. I vote for those
associated with education to "share the pain" we in Michigan are feeling--everyone wants a
piece of us poor taxpayers--the state, the city, the township. Add to that utilities, cable TV--
gasoline, groceries--we are all headed to the food lines unless we stop this now.

LIVE ON A BUDGET LIKE THE POOR TAXPAYER!!!
WE DO NOT HAVE UNLIMITED FUNDS TO SUBSIDIZE YOUR SPENDING!!!

I keep my heat down to 60, didn't turn the air on once this summer, watch all water consumption, cut coupons, and consolidate errands.

We, the People, have all made the necessary cuts to keep our family bugets- while we forgo, pay increases, 401k contribution matches, upgraded medical benefits and watch our property values sink to the gutter!

I am anixously waiting for my property taxes to finally go down this year, since both the home value and CPI have tanked.

Ya know..I am just not feeling all that generous right now, much less wanting to get an 11% tax increase!

Not to mention, Lansing still has not spoken on how they are going to counter act on not getting thier usual CPI increase in taxes....stay tuned.

Other industries make cutbacks in hard times because they're typically producing a product or service that is demanded less during a recession. Simple economics. Are there substantially fewer students in AAPS and other Washtenaw county districts? Should the quality of the product (children's education) vary dramatically from cohort to cohort because they should "do more with less"? As for raises, most unions have accepted little if any raise. During the 90s when may private sector employees were receiving raises and bonuses, teachers accepted tiny 2% raises. Education, healthcare, and public safety should not vary so much with the economy like the private sector. We all suffer as a result.

Welcome to the state of Michissippi, the center of cone-pone hitlerian politics!

How did the supporters expect us to vote for this millage when the teachers get automatic pay increases every year. Must be nice. I have not had a raise in a couple of years now and I have to work all year. I would love to only work 9 months out of the year and have summers off, but that is not how the real world works. Get rid of the teachers union and all of the bloated bureaucracy and you will be able to find more than enough money.

Millages such as this one are almost always giveaways to teachers and staff. I'm happy to have voted against it - everybody is doing more with less, let the Ann Arbor Public School System do the same.

Administrators need to re-open the teachers union contract. Poor performing teachers should be fired. All other industries must cut, so should the teachers.
