Since when did the Daily have a columnist that gave a libertarian viewpoint? Could this mean the Daily is actually diversifying?! Whoa...

While the author makes a number of interesting, valid and thought-provoking points, I must take one very large exception. The author calls the criteria of Obama's healthcare plan "yet another liberal attack on individual autonomy."

THIS
IS
WRONG

While it is indeed an attack on individual autonomy, there is nothing liberal about it. A liberal, as I am, would oppose this dictating of terms as described in New York's banning of transfats. Liberals value freedom, and freedom means choice.

I AM SICK of people calling things like these "liberal" merely because they come from a Democratic politician. NOT EVERY DEMOCRAT IS LIBERAL. I wish people would actually pay attention to the proper definition of the words they are using.

Good luck with that.

Conservatism has labored mightly to assert the parallel semantic distincition: George W. Bush was a Republican, but NOT a conservative.

With GWB's expansion of presidential power, misuse of presidential powers to bypass laws, and increase in government spending, I have a hard time viewing him as a republican.

Republican: Advocates of a republic, a form of government that is not a monarchy or dictatorship, and is generally associated with the rule of law

A true republican would fall more in line with McCain. I would actually consider GWB more of a conservative.

"It didn’t matter to lawmakers that many restaurants switched to palm oil — which has no trans fat but such high quantities of saturated fat that the health benefits of changing oils was negligible."

Really? I'd like to see some numbers on that.
My understanding is that saturated fat was demonized by the folks making the hydrogenated oils to help sell their toxic product.

Please read "The Revolution Will Not Be Microwaved" by Sandor Katz and check back later... I'm interested to hear what you think about it after you've read it.
