As a member of the Native student community at U of M, I'd like to thank the Daily for the prominent and thorough coverage of this year's powwow and why it was moved off campus. However, I want to make the same request that I made after last year's powwow coverage. PLEASE be more professional when it comes to fact gathering. As a professional reporter since 1989, I know that factual accuracy is the cornerstone of credible journalism. Three corrections I'd like to make:

There are 1,390 human beings whose skeletal remains are being held by the U of M Museum of Anthropology, not 1,900 as you report.

These skeletal remains are not "artifacts." That's sorta the point. Not until the jump do you identify them as human remains.

The Saginaw-Chippewa tribe is only one of the tribes whose ancestors are being held by the university. The Daily keeps reporting this inaccurately. Every one of Michigan's 12 federally and 2 state-recognized bands (or "tribes") have ancestral remains in the U of M museum.

Thanks again for a story that covered the major points of the powwow move. In the future, you can always check the Native student website to be sure your facts are correct. It is umich.edu/~aium.
