Have we not seen this story before. In Canada the old school of media is waging a huge battle with the blogs and actually cutting them to shreds on radio. But it's not doing much good the blogger keep leaking out of every crevice they try to patch and by slamming them is works in the blogger favour. Your just giving them more ammo to launch from " Mommy's couch" so ignore.
It's coming folks if you like it or not it's coming. The day will soon arrive when no papers land on doorsteps and beat reporters will be couch potatoes working from home. They will do interviews across broadband and sometimes 3 a day. The blogger will soon be the media.
Brian, why must you make fun of my insane hackery?
Mark Snyder is another beat writer who does a great job. These are people who are schooled in journalism. When I wake up in the morning, grab my coffee, and turn on my computer, I want to see what a legitimate writer--who has sources, has checked and cross-checked information and done due diligence--has to say. I don't want to read the opinions of some guy on mommie's couch when it comes to breaking news or analysis as it pertains to player or coach's impressions...because the blogger hasn't been there to interview the players or coaches. Because odds are the blogger doesn't have key sources. Etc etc etc.
I go to mgoblog to get silly pictures from time to time, but I care more about what my postman thinks about the state of UM football than this Cook guy. Honestly. He has no pedigree. Zero. He gets 50,000 PAGE views by the same 2500 students and a few stragglers. That's it. I won't go so far as to say he has zero credibility, but really, you can't even try to compare a blogger like Cook to a legit writer who earns a real paycheck.
And by the way, young Mr. Reid, when you get to a real newspaper--even if that newspaper is strictly online and no longer print--they won't let you use the "F" word. Old fogies like me consider that uncouth.
I'll take professionals like Angelique Chengelis at the "archaic" Detroit News any day over a guy like this, who apparently hasn't seen a barber since the internet started. Anyone can write anything they want from their dingy little apartment, or mom's basement. Doesn't make it legit. Anyone can have a blog for $9.99 a month is hosting fees. Big deal. Don't give this guy any credence. He got lucky and put a "Lloyd Carr To Retire" post up that ended up being accurate, so people gave this guy credibility, when, in fact, he wasn't prescient, it's just that the other writers didn't print it out of respect. They let Lloyd go out on his terms. Guys like this blogger do more harm than good. I've been to his site. It's gibberish half the time. Haven't been back in 2 months, and never will go back, either. I do read the Detroit News online every day, though. True pros.
Nice couch. Is that your mother's basement?
It's Mitch Albom, not Album
