Ian Robinson: Why this offense can't adapt

The woes of Michigan go to the coach, Rich Rodriguez. Good coaching always trumps mediocre talent. Rich Rodriguez can't even motivate his own hand picked players to play well. Good intentions don't win games.

Ultimately, the coach is responsible for what does and does not happen by the time the clock runs out. Fans want wins, not excuses.

In the long run, history will look only at wins and losses. Period.

The only things benefitting from the current team leadership are Rich Rodriguez's bank account and Athletic Director Bill Martin's ego. Each of these self-serving individuals have betrayed a great Michigan record and tradition. Not to mention talk radio hosts of a certain political persuasion.

Arrington and Manningham wouldn't play?? Mallet our savior?? Maybe in Bizarro world. Mallet was horrible last year.

- McGuffie is one of the best RB's to come to Michigan. Beyond Hart, Anthony Thomas, Biakkabatuka, Jamie Morris and Tyrone Wheatley... McGuffie is on par with Harmon: if he stays healthy he could bring the Heisman back to AA within 2-3 years.

- We get our QB next year, either Tate or Shavodrick. Then give the kid another year to learn college ball and the B10, we'll be good in two years and awesome in three. Remember that.

- Bo even said, in several interviews, the triple option and the spread is the future of both collegiate and professional football. Mobile QB's will become more and more the norm. Michigan went from old school to beyond new school in one year. We need to have patience guys.

- Our O-Line. Look without a line I don't care who you're QB is, he'll have no time. We've got some good recruits and potentially TREMENDOUS O line recruits coming in (thinking of Campbell from Cass Tech).

In short, be patient guys, we're going to be REAL good. I mean like BCS Title good, in just a few years.

I agree with Michigan Grad. It's not that Arrington and Manningham chose to leave right away. RichRod basically told them to go because they wouldn't see much playing time. And as far as Mallet goes, RichRod threw away the only hope for saving this team. Threet consistently throws perfectly... but to the opposing team. During the UT game (which I was at and thoroughly disappointed), they ran the same play over and over with either negative or zero yardage. It's sad when Michigan fans are regretting badmouthing Lloyd Carr. And by the way, giving everyone the opportunity to be a captain at a game is very kindergarten teacher of RichRod. These boys should have to earn it, not be handed it because it's "fair." Let's toughen them up a little!

I made the comment to someone else that Michigan probably would still have some of those players on offense if Carr was still there, or at least if RR weren't the coach. My feeling is that RR wanted to push everyone associated with Michigan's past out in a hurry so that he could get things going his way with little opposition. And think about it--if you look at what he's done to players like Brandon Minor, Carson Butler and Greg Matthews at times (but especially Minor), there's no guarantee that Manningham, Arrington and/or Mallet would even be starting regularly this season.
