It is funny how people from the city understand pollution and that it is "man-made". People from Alaska see the "melt" and the magnificence of nature. From a human perspective the origin of which scene is most easily identifiable.

Mark, please be more open-minded, the theoretical causes of "global warming" are not stopping anyone from protecting the environment. Palin is a God fearing person taught to beleve that it is our purpose to care for this planet, and that all life has value(purpose). When you consider that this "climate change" has occurred before
in the history of the earth, before human existence it is logical to conclude that we are a contributor not the cause.

Our educational system has narrowed and censored what ideas we can consider.
Hopefully as we grow older and wiser we can be more objective when forming opinions.

Thank you; Joe

Palin has since being picked McCain’s running mate has reversed her stance on global warming somewhat. In fact, she maintains that how one goes about fixing the situation is somewhat irrelevant to how we got to the situation now that we have (kind of like the war in Iraq), so instead of bickering about it, we should just act in a progressive matter. So at least she agrees that whether man has contributed to the issue or not it is still our responsibility to solve it.

That being said, I think there is absolutely zero credibility to the idea that global warming is something that is not manmade, and Palin's view on this does worry me a bit. This, however, is irrelevant to McCain's point of view on the environment, and him picking her as the running mate, doesn't mean that they necessarily agree on everything. I mean they're a "team of mavericks" after all.

As for your second point, offshore drilling isn’t necessarily about lowering the price of gas, but the general idea logy of reducing America’s dependence on foreign oil, especially from unstable regions in the Middle East that use our money to fund terrorism. Yes, it might take some time to come in effect, but the point is it will help us wean off foreign oil, while developing alternative energy more rigorously. It isn’t meant to be a permanent solution, but rather a temporary one, to give us some time to switch to non-fossil fuels.

Another important point of McCain’s environmental policy, that isn’t very well mentioned in this article, is his stance on nuclear energy, especially over that of Obama’s. Nuclear energy is safe, efficient, and clean, and if countries like France can power themselves on it, so can we. The problem of safe storage is something that is yet to be addressed, but if we start moving into the direction of nuclear energy a solution is bound to arise. The point is alternative energies like wind and solar are great and should be wider implemented, but alone they are not realistic in terms of providing the kind of energy we need. That is why McCain proposes building 45 new nuclear reactors by 2030. Obama’s view on nuclear energy is very ambivalent and it doesn’t seem like it is something he will implement as much.

I think McCain’s view on reducing our carbon emission by the “all of the above” approach is the most effective and reasonable way to go about the issue. As of right now there isn’t one method of solving the problem and I think it’s important that we employ all of our technologies in trying to revert the climate change.

How does McCain show he is serious about combating climate change when his choice of VP doesn't believe that human activity contributes to global warming? If humans don't affect climate change, why bother to cut emissions?

Offshore oil drilling, in 10 years, could supply 1.2% of America's oil needs and lower the price of gas $.03. Sounds like a great plan!
