Finally! Someone who understands that these two candidates are one in the same. It seems everyone around here thinks Barack Obama is really going to "change" things. I've heard nothing but rhetoric from both of these candidates, and I'm sorry to say I don't see any real "change" coming from either of them.
Parties can't grow without support. If a person truly believes in certain principles, ideas, freedoms, I don't consider that person's vote a wasted one. I see it as someone taking a stance in what they believe, and I hope that citizens take the time to realize this and to not wuss out, vote for a more popular, "practical" candidate, and conform to other ignorant voters if they don't actually think that that candidate should take office.
Mike, since when have we HAD to vote for one of the two main party candidates? Limiting our votes will successfully prevent any other party from entering the fray in a time when we need change most. Parties can't grow without support. There are no wasted votes.
I wonder how you (and your father, for that matter) feel about Professor Greg Mankiw's stance on pigovian taxes on carbon emissions. As Mankiw details in this recent document (http://www.economics.harvard.edu/faculty/mankiw/files/Smart%20Taxes.pdf) pigovian taxes are the best possible solution to limit emissions, while increasing government revenue and avoiding higher costs that are inevitably passed on to consumers.

Cap and Trade: The cap and trade program he supports is mechanism for expanding the powers of government. For one, current companies are granted their credits, while new companies have to buy them. This is similar to the using of licensing businesses to limit the number of new competitors.
Supporting free trade agreements: There is no need for a "free trade agreement" because Congress has the power to eliminate tariffs itself. With free trade agreements come exceptions and quotas, which can be used by lobbyists to "help Americans" with higher prices and worse products.
These are just a few I remember off the top of my head. I am sure that I missed many more.
I am a libertarian and I am voting for Bob Barr, not because I love Bob Barr, but because McCain is a terrible candidate. If the Repbulicans lose, it will be because we (I am a Republican) only pay lip service to freedom. If McCain loses it will be because his message does not invigorate conservatives. If Obama wins, it will be because Americans voters do not understand economics. It is not the lesser of two evils, but the evil of two lessers.
A vote for the lesser of two evils is a wasted one.
McCain, in no way, wants to grow the government. A vote for the libertarian candidate might as well be a vote for Obama. The LIbertarians need to ask themselves who their second favorite choice is. Libertarians aren't going to win this year, just like they've never won before. A libertarian vote is a wasted one.
