Not much to argue with in the letters except the comment about Bill Ayers. He's a complete joke and was from the beginning. He ran for schoolboard in Ann Arbor in the late 60s and was laughed out of town. He later became co-opted into the system as so many of his "radical" peers did and wore the suit and tie uniform of professional educators. I doubt that any intelligent politician of any belief would listen to him seriously.

Both Obama and McCain made smart choices--picking running mates who counterbalance their own weaknesses. The Republicans chose better simply because they put the inexperienced person in the subordinate role.

Then again, from the way Sarah Barracuda took down the corrupt GOP machine in Alaska, maybe she's better qualified than any of them. Obama certainly didn't take down the corrupt Democrat machine in Chicago (granted that's a bigger job). And while McCain has accomplished more than Biden, it's not certain that his accomplishments are really that good (e.g. McCain-Feingold).

For the last 30 years, Alaska has been trying to put a natural gas pipeline through Canada to the lower 48, and has failed miserably. But Governor Palin got the deal done in under 2 years, bypassing the big oil companies when it became necessary. At $26 billion, it's the biggest private construction project in history. What have Obama, Biden, or even McCain ever done economically for this nation that even comes close?

Come to think of it, Palin has more executive experience than any of them. The others are legislators in a congress with single digit approval rating, while Palin's rating as an executive is 80%. This is no contest.

I never in my wildest dreams would have thought that a gun-toting, Bible-thumping, Naughty Alaskan librarian (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yh-lW2opLyQ) and hockey mom could outshine Obama. But she certainly has.

Thank goodness, given that Obama has twice voted to abandon to death those born-alive babies who have survived abortion (even Hilary and Biden didn't do that).

Obama has only shown up in the Senate for 134 days over his term. Most of the time when he was there he ONLY cast a "present" vote, meaning he didn't even have the courage to take a stance on most bills. Palin has been in elected office much longer than Obama has. Did anyone really think that the Michigan Daily would EVER say something positive about a Republican?

The point is, Obama has a shady past, which he has lied about. He was raised a Muslim, by his Muslim father and Muslim stepfather, until the age of 11. He had numerous individuals on his campaign staff with ties to radical Islam. Up until 2 years ago he was a frequent speaker at Pro-Palestinian/Pro-Terrorism fundraisers. He was schooled in politics by the unrepentant terrorist William Ayers, of U of M's own Weatherman, who bombed the Pentagon and on 9/11/01 says that he didn't do enough bombings.

"Palin's lack of experience is a legitimate concern, one shared by a substantial minority of the Republicans we've spoken with since arriving in the Twin Cities. But this is an awkward argument for Democrats to make, since the man at the top of their ticket is decidedly in the same league in terms or experience. One can quibble over the relative quality of their experiences, but that's a close call, and one in which partisan leanings are the usual tiebreaker."

What's this "Obama has only been in the US Senate for LESS than a year"? He was sworn in on Jan. 4, 2005, so he's been in the Senate for more than 3 years.

3 years of which Mr. Obama actually worked, in his office (the senate), for 143 days. Michigan will teach you to think things through before you react Jerome, i advise you to pay attention to said lessons so you can avoid this sort of thoughtless commentary in the future.

"'And in the greatest of ironies, even Mother Nature showed up for this hapless re-enactment — in the form of Hurricane Gustav.'

Some one should explain to Syed what 'ironic' means."

I'll give ya ironic: the Christian right prays for a storm to interrupt Obama's acceptance speech and instead they get Gustav, canceling the RNC . . .

Seriously? Why would you only show one side? Maybe to hide the fact that Obama has only been in the US Senate for LESS than a year? All he has is LEGISLATIVE experience. At least Palin, even if she was mayor of only a small town (irrelevant point), has experience being in charge of something instead of sitting at a desk voting. Another thing - why does it matter if Alaska is a small (population) state. There is just as much decision making going on there as any other state. If you're trying to point out useless bits of information to sway voters one way or another, I consider you a pitiful excuse for a human being. Give people all the facts and let them decide for themselves instead of attempting to corrupt the most easily corruptible group of voters out there! Focus on the issues!

Wondering if there is still hope for American politics,
Christoph
