After a good start to the season, the Michigan women's golf team fell apart two weeks ago with a last-place finish at the Mercedes-Benz Championship. That type of performance can ruin a season, but Michigan coach Kathy Teichert wasn't about to let that happen.

Teichert held a team meeting the week before this weekend's Landfall Invitational in Wilmington, N.C. to help the Wolverines regain their composure and confidence.
"I just told the girls that we have to believe in ourselves," Teichert said. "In golf, when you have a poor performance you can't blame anybody else. The sole responsibility rests with yourself. We stepped up to the challenge well."
After the first day of tournament, Michigan looked like the team that won the Wolverine Invitational and finished fourth at the Lady Northern Invitational as it held sole possession of first place. Unfortunately for the Wolverines, they still had 36 holes to play, and the Wolverines finished the three-day event taking fifth place in the 12-team field.
Teichert said that windy conditions during the second round made play much more difficult, resulting in some higher scores for the team. She also mentioned that the first-place start raised expectations and put a little extra pressure on the team to perform well. In addition, five out of the 12 teams at the Landfall were rated in the top 25 by Golfweek magazine. While the final two rounds were disappointing, Teichert seemed pleased with her team's performance.
"I felt good about our start," Teichert said. "I thought we recovered well on the third day and the girls handled themselves well. Fifth place was a good finish for us."
Once again, senior Brianna Broderick led the way for Michigan. She started out strong, shooting an even-par72 on the first day. That was good for a tie for first place. A rough second round set her back, as she shot six-over on the back nine for a four-over par 76. She recovered on the last day to end the tournament in a tie for third place.
Senior Ali Stinson finished in an eighth place tie, playing consistently throughout. Freshmen Andrea Ratigan and Ashley Bauer finished in a tie for 25th and a tie for 32nd, respectively. Junior Lindsay Davis finished tied for 41st.
The Wolverines will look to continue their improved play at the Aloha Purdue Collegiate Invitational on Nov. 22 in Hawaii. It's the last tournament of the fall season.
