LAWRENCE, Kan — The Michigan men’s basketball team’s streaky reputation followed them over 750 miles to Allen Fieldhouse, where a nightmare 10-minute stretch in the first half ultimately proved too much for the Wolverines (5-5) to overcome against top-ranked Kansas (10-0). Michigan fell 75-64 in their fifth loss in seven games.
After trading baskets and taking a one-point lead seven minutes into the contest, the Wolverines were outscored 31-7 over the course of the next 10 minutes. Michigan found itself down 23 points with just under four minutes remaining in the first frame.
The Wolverines fought their way back to a 42-31 deficit at the half, thanks to senior Deshawn Sims and freshman Darius Morris combing for 11 points. But Michigan could not pull within single-digits throughout the second half, during which Sims didn't see much of the floor because of foul trouble. Without their only inside offensive weapon, the Wolverines' dismal outside shooting could not make up for Sims's absence.
