Wisconsin preview

Published September 4, 2007

Wisconsin Badgers
(11-1, 2nd in Big Ten)

Key returnees: RB P.J. Hill, CB Jack Ikegwuonu, TE Travis Beckum

Player to watch: QB Tyler Donovan. The fifth-year senior carries a program's national title hopes on his shoulders.

Reason for optimism: Wisconsin will probably have the best defense in the conference this season, and maybe a top-five defense nationally. The defensive line, linebackers and secondary are all strong units, all with returning contributors.

Reason for pessimism: Perpetually underrated QB John Stocco is gone, leaving a gaping hole at the helm of the Badger offense.

Bottom line: Hill is overrated and Stocco will be missed. But the defense will be dominant, meaning that the offense won't have to score too many points to win. 10-2.
