NEW AND FORMER ATHLETIC DIRECTORS SPEAK TO UNIVERSITY OFFICIALS
Newly elected Athletic Director David Brandon and his predecessor, Bill Martin, spoke before members of the Senate Advisory Committee on University Affairs — the University’s faculty governing body — earlier this week. The pair discussed the Athletic Department’s finances, University recreational facilities, changes in academics for student-athletes and their thoughts on the possible enlargement of the Big Ten Conference.

COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY TO BE PUSHED BACK ONE HOUR DUE TO INCREASED SECURITY MEASURES
University officials announced this week that the start time for this Spring’s commencement ceremony will be pushed back one hour — from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The later time was decided upon because of additional security precautions that will be taken due to the presence of President Barack Obama, who will be delivering the keynote address.

UNIVERSITY OFFICIALS ANNOUNCE PLANS TO CELEBRATE 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF EARTH DAY
To celebrate Earth Day next month — a day that began 40 years ago — University officials launched a new website highlighting their plans for a month-long series of campus events for the remainder of the semester. The activities will encompass a joint partnership between student groups, faculty and University administrators.

MSA ADMITS FAILED ATTEMPT TO REVAMP WEBSITE
Michigan Student Assembly President Abhishek Mahanti discussed the organization’s failure to launch a new website and apologized for the amount of money spent on the attempt — a total of almost $9,000. At their Tuesday night meeting, MSA also discussed the concert it will be sponsoring later this month, which will feature hip hop artists Big Sean, Wale and the Clips.

COLEMAN DISCUSSES NCAA INVESTIGATION, UNIVERSITY DINING AND CAMPUS-WIDE SMOKING BAN AT FIRESIDE CHAT
In her monthly fireside chat held yesterday, University President Mary Sue Coleman avoided directly answering students' questions about the NCAA's allegations of violations by the Michigan football program, and said that there are future proceedings that will take place. Students in attendance also discussed campus issues like problems they have with University dining and the proposed campus-wide smoking ban.
