Weekend Concert Guide — 3/18/10
BY MIKE KUNTZ
Here are a number of shows to keep you occupied for your post-St. Pats hangover, from the dreamy (The Clientele) to the nostalgic (Sister Hazel) to the hirsute (John Oates). Check ‘em out below:
The Clientele – Bling Pig
Tonight, 8:30 p.m.
$14
On what has been declared the last tour for the Brits before calling it quits, The Clientele stop by the Blind Pig tomorrow for a night of lush psych-pop (2005’s Strange Geometry was one of the better albums of the last decade.) Definitely check them out if you can.
Sister Hazel – Blind Pig
Tomorrow, 9 p.m.
$20
Powerpoppers Sister Hazel, best known for 1997 hit “All For You” and whose songs have appeared in almost as many classic ’90s high school movies as Third Eye Blind, head over to the Pig Friday night. I’m hoping they’ll play Big Star’s “September Gurls,” (which they recorded for the 1999 tribute Big Star, Small World though it wasn’t included on the compilation) in memory of Alex Chilton.
John Oates – The Ark
Tomorrow, 7:30 p.m.
$35
“The seductive soul man from Hall & Oates goes solo!” says the flyer for tomorrow night’s show. Recommended if you’ve got a Jones for the “Footloose” soundtrack or just really like Jheri curls (Soul Glo not included.)
