1:Seven University faculty members have won a 2008 Guggenheim Fellowship, a national award recognizing outstanding research and academic achievement. The University had the most winners of any School this year.

2:World-renowned jazz pianist and composer Brad Mehldau, who covered Radiohead's "Paranoid Android" and made it a jazz hit, performs tonight in a jazz trio at the Michigan Theater at 8 p.m.

3:Authorities at the Canadian border arrested a man and woman attempting to smuggle 100 pounds of plastic-wrapped cocaine bricks into the United States in their car, the Detroit News reported. Police are pursuing charges of drug possession with attempt to distribute.
