Thoughts from the Daily: The UGLi gets some work done

BY RACHEL VAN GILDER

You may have noticed that the Shapiro Undergraduate Library (affectionately referred to as the UGLi) is looking a bit different lately. The reserves shelves, which have been located behind the front circulation desk, are now in the back of the main study room on the first floor. That's because the UGLi is about to get a facelift.

According to the MLibrary website, the front lobby of the UGLi is scheduled to undergo renovations starting Oct. 25. The renovation will make the lobby more comfortable and friendly to student groups meeting work. The renovation is being funded with a donation from Bertram Askwith (for whom Bert's Café and the Askwith Media Library are named). Accordingly, the new lobby area will be called Bert's Study Lounge.

Do you think the UGLi's lobby needs a renovation? What about other parts of the UGLi could use a new look?  What other buildings or areas on campus do you think should be renovated?
