A University student was robbed at gunpoint on Baits Drive on North Campus at about midnight last night.
According to a crime alert sent out by the Department of Public Safety at about 3:25 a.m., a man approached the student who was walking along Baits Drive, brandished a handgun and demanded that the student hand over his money.
Department of Public Safety Spokeswoman Diane Brown said the student gave the man less than $100. The suspect then fled on foot. No one was injured in the incident. Police have no suspects.
The suspect was described as a 5-foot-8 black male dressed in a dark hooded sweatshirt with a grey or silver logo on the front. He wore a black ski mask over his face.
Brown advised students living in the area to take special precautions. Students are advised to walk in groups at night and be aware of their surroundings.
"(Students) should be very aware, and it would be a smart idea to walk with someone else when it's dark in particular," she said. "Multiple people together tends to reduce the target for a bad guy."
