The Michigan men's tennis team kicked off its season with impressive individual performances at the Tom Fallon Invitational this weekend.

Eight Wolverines played matches in the tournament, posting a combined 34-13 record (23-8 singles, 11-5 doubles).
Although the tournament was not scored as a team effort, the results counted toward each individual's record and rankings.
Michigan coach Bruce Berque was pleased with the efforts of his players, in particular junior Peter Aarts. The Pound Ridge, N.Y., native, did not drop a set in his four singles matches and posted a combined 7-1 record over the three days.
"I thought Aarts played really well this weekend, especially in his singles matches," Berque said.
Andrew Mazlin, voted the Most Improved Player last season, also had success over the weekend. He went 6-1 in his matches (3-0 singles, 3-1 doubles), and had two come-from-behind victories on the first day of the tournament, setting the tone for the rest of the weekend.
Although Berque felt that Mazlin was not playing to his potential, he was confident the junior would come out victorious.
"Mazlin plays best when his back is up against the wall," Berque said.
Other strong performers at the tournament include sophomore Matt Parks and freshman Chris Madden. Parks played to a 6-2 record by winning three out of four matches in both singles and doubles. Madden participated in every round and finished 5-3.
He teamed with Mazlin to go 3-1 in doubles while posting a 2-2 record playing singles.
Berque said that he was not at all surprised by Madden's strong showing in his first collegiate tournament.
"He is very competitive and talented," Burque said. "It was good to see him playing some college matches."
The three members of the team who did not play, senior Matko Maravic, sophomore Mike Scrocynski, and freshman Jason Jung, will be competing in the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American qualifiers this week in Tulsa, Okla.
