"Smoke-Free Campus" logo goes live

BY LINDSAY KRAMER

The Smoke-Free University Steering Committee presented its logo today that will be used to promote the University’s smoke-free initiative starting July 1, 2011.

The logo is a traditional no-smoking sign — but with a University twist — outlined in blue with a maize cigarette running through it and surrounded by the words “July 2011” and “Smoke-Free Campus."

When the ban goes into effect, smoking will be prohibited on all three University campuses’ indoor and outdoor property. The committee is still developing a plan to ensure that all University property is smoke-free by the deadline, according to an e-mail Kallie Bila Michels, chair of the communications subcommittee.

In effort to get members of the University community more involved in the initiative, the committee is encouraging students, faculty and staff to submit drawings and slogans to help promote a smoke-free environment, Michels wrote.
