Senior defenseman Kampfer headed to Bruins minor league affiliate

BY MARK BURNS

According to Michigan hockey coach Red Berenson, senior defenseman Steve Kampfer has departed for Providence, Rhode Island to eventually sign an entry-level NHL contract with the Boston Bruins. Berenson announced the news at his weekly radio show at the Arena Sports Bar and Grill in Ann Arbor.

Kampfer was originally drafted in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by the Anaheim Ducks and was traded to Boston on March 2, 2010 for a conditional fourth round pick in the 2010 or 2011 Draft.

It is still to be determined when Kampfer will play his first game for the Bruins's American Hockey League affiliate in Providence. The Jackson native will miss the Wolverines' end-of-the-year banquet this weekend.
