The Michigan women's track and field team was missing one of its biggest stars this weekend. Still, the Wolverines dominated the Michigan Intercollegiate with 249 points, while second-place Western Michigan had just 107.

All-American junior sprinter Tiffany Ofili didn't compete in the meet because she was competing at the Millrose Games in New York. Junior Casey Taylor won three events and both redshirt junior Alyson Kohlmeier and senior Nicole Edwards earned NCAA provisional times - Kohlmeier at 3,000 meters and Edwards at 800 meters.
All-American junior Bettie Wade dominated the first day of the meet, winning the pentathlon and setting the tone for Saturday.
"A win always gets a team off to a good start," Wade said. "Last week we did really well, but this week we had a lot of people excel in their events because of the improved training."
Another Wolverine whose performance aided the Wolverines' effort was junior Geena Gall. The Grand Blanc native won the mile run, an event in which the Wolverines swept the top three.
"Our coach tried to get me to pace (fifth-year senior) Lauren Uible and (junior) Kelly Sampson to run under five minutes," Gall said. "Although Kelly didn't quite get there, it's still her best. So it's still an accomplishment."
Casey Taylor, who normally competes in the long jump and triple jump, came out with an impressive win in the 60-meter dash and also finished .01 seconds out of first place in the 200-meter dash.
"Normally I work on the sprints as a way to work on improving my long jumps," Taylor said. "This is all part of my larger goal to qualify for the nationals in the long and the triple jump."
As for the absent Ofili, she fared extremely well at the Millrose Games, finishing first in the 60-meter hurdles in the college division.
"The scoring today was indicative of how balanced this team is without her," Michigan coach James Henry said. "In the long run I think that her going out there is going to be a positive thing for us."
