Michigan women's basketball team takes on Northwestern in Big Ten Tournament

BY ZAK PYZIK

In the first game of the Big Ten Tournament, the Michigan women’s basketball team will take on Northwestern at the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis at 12:00 p.m. Thursday.

The Wolverines (8-10 Big Ten, 16-12 overall) have lost their last three meetings against the Wildcats.

Northwestern is coming off of a two-game losing streak after being blown out by both No. 10 Ohio State and Illinois, 78-47, 58-48 respectively. To the contrary, Michigan is on a two-game winning streak. The Wolverines ousted Minnesota 65-54 and then Purdue last Sunday 64-63.

Michigan will most likely go with the same starting five it has gone with for most of the season (besides last week for senior day). Freshmen guards Dayeesha Hollins and Jenny Ryan, sophomore forward Carmen Reynolds, junior guard Veronica Hicks, and senior center Krista Phillips.

Hollins had a career-high night two games ago when she tallied 27 points against the Golden Gophers. Hollins then only played the second half against the Boilermakers because it was senior day and she scored nine points.
