Sophomore Jason Jung hobbled on one leg for half of his match against No. 42 Northwestern today in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals.

The 37th-ranked Michigan men’s tennis team had a 3-2 match-lead against the Wildcats and needed sophomore Jason Jung’s gutsy performance to give the Wolverines the fourth and final point, sealing the victory and a berth in the Big Ten semifinals.

The Wolverines now have a date with No. 3 Ohio State tomorrow.

After Michigan (6-4 Big Ten, 13-13 overall) grabbed the doubles point, sophomore Chris Madden won in straight sets (6-1, 6-4) at No. 4 singles to give the team a 2-1 lead.

Redshirt freshmen Drew Daniel followed with a win at the No. 6 singles position, setting the stage for Jung to come through for the Wolverines.

The Torrance, Calif., native lost the first set at No. 1 singles but rallied in the next two frames to give the team the win against Northwestern (18-8, 6-4) despite the swirling winds all afternoon.

The match against the Buckeyes is slated for a 10 a.m. start at the Varsity Tennis Center.
