Manny Harris suspended for Purdue game

BY RYAN KARTJE

In an important Big Ten road game that could make or break the Wolverines' diminishing NCAA Tournament chances, Michigan men's basketball coach John Beilein announced today that the team will be shorthanded when it takes the floor in West Lafayette today.

Junior guard Manny Harris is suspended from the game for an "act of unsportsmanlike conduct" during practice on Friday, according to an Athletic Department press release. Harris's return to the team in time for Tuesday's game against Michigan State isn't guaranteed, either.

"Manny has made great strides both on and off the court over the last three years. Unfortunately, he used poor judgment on Friday," Beilein said in the press release. "It is best for Manny's future if he stays home and sits out this Purdue game. We will meet with Manny and the team again when we return to determine if he has learned enough from this suspension to rejoin the team for Tuesday's game. I am confident that this learning experience will be valuable in the future to both Manny and our basketball program."

With Harris out, Michigan loses the Big Ten's leading scorer at 19.2 points per game and the team's second-leading rebounder at 6.7 boards per game.
