At about 1:20 a.m., the victim told police two men approached him on Lincoln Avenue near Hill Street while he was walking from a party at a friend's house to his residence on State Street, an Ann Arbor Police officer said.
One of the two called out for the victim's attention and asked him for directions to Granger Avenue.
Police said after the victim said he was unable to give the men directions, one of the men pulled out a black handgun and demanded the victim give him all the money he had. While the victim stood still, the second man then reached into the victim's pocket and took his cell phone and his wallet, which contained $19.
The suspects told the victim to lie on the ground before they ran south on Lincoln Avenue, the crime alert said.
The victim got up after hearing the men leave and called Ann Arbor Police.
Granger Avenue is in the direction the men ran. Lincoln Avenue dead ends at Burns Park, but begins again on the other side of the park that Granger Avenue runs along. While the area where the incident occurred has mostly student residents, Granger Avenue has several expensive homes and little student housing.
The Ann Arbor Police Department sent information about the incident to DPS because of its proximity to University students, the officer said.
The victim told police that the men were of average build, about six feet tall and wearing black hooded sweatshirts with the hoods up.
Police ask for anyone with information about the incident to call their tip line at (734) 996-3199.
